Hello,
I am part of a team that's trying to recreate WC2 on the WC3 engine. The engine is completed (except for some bugs of course) and the models, textures and campaigns are in the works. We are in a dip right now though, as most of our team has disappeared (3 mappers, 2 modelers and a skinner) and only the teamleader StrategyMaster and I (mapper) remain. As soon as we find some new people (I'll have time to look for them during Christmass Holiday) we'll begin work again.
What's currently completed:
A couple of models and textures
The engine (though not perfectly, and the AI isn't completed either)
First four maps of the Tides of Darkness orcish campaign are nearly completed

Now, to the point, we're currently using the original WC2 sounds, which is OK, but the quality is a bit out-dated. It would be great if you could remake it Cheesy

Thanks,

loktar

Hello loktar,

Sorry about the delay in replying -- I have been extremely busy lately.

I have two main questions for now:

1. Is the demo in your signature the most recent release? Because I will have a look at that to help determine the suitability of the project for approval.
2. Are you looking for originally-composed music, or improved renders of the original Tides of Darkness music by Glenn Stafford?

After that I'll have some more questions for you via email, but those will do for now.

The demo in my signature is indeed the latest for now. However, in a couple of weeks a new one will be available, which will include Act I of the Orc campaign of the Original WC2 (i.e. not the expansion) and possibly an engine update. This demo only contains a few models, which will probably not even be used in the final demo.

We're currently using the Original WC2 music extracted from the MPQ file of the Battle.net version, and also the original voices and effects, though we're planning on hiring voice actors and possibly using the WC3 sound effects.
We're looking for a recomposition of the original WC2 music. It's probably best if it has a few changes so it sounds a bit more modern and doesn't have that synthesizery sound to it anymore, but it can of course sound exactly the same.

Hmm . . . since the current demo is from May, I think I might reserve judgement for the new demo when it comes out.

However, I do have a few questions if you check your PM.

I can't wait to check it out -- I love Tides of Darkness . . . I get nostalgic just thinking about it.

Yeah, the project had been inactive for a couple of months, but we'll soon start work again (after my exams Cheesy)

Make sure you get back to us when you release the upcoming demo.

I'd hate to see your request get forgotten, so make sure you remind us!

Well, there have been a few updates to the latest demo and now is 1.18 in stead of 1.17, but the new demo with the campaign isn't finished yet.
I can't really give an estimate of when it will be ready though. I'll keep you updated Smiley

I have reviewed this project, and think that it is most definitely worthy of approval.

So if anyone wants to jump onboard and write some old-fashioned, 1990s game music in the style of Tides of Darkness . . .

I look forward to playing this when it is done -- please keep us updated on your progress.

No-one was interested in writing some WarCraft II-era styled music for the project?

Is this project still progressing?
