I don't know how many of you have heard of the TED Conference that occurs every year in various parts of the world, but if you haven't, you really owe it to yourself to look into it, and watch some of the lectures.

One in particular, though, that I thought might be interesting to all you composition nuts here is one given by Jennifer Lin in 2004:

Of particular note (no pun intended) for me was the improvisational section at the end of her speech, of starting with a random series of pitches, and attempting to arrange them into a melody and a work.  Definitely has some cogs turning in my head, and hopefully if I'm lucky I'll get some time to put those ideas to work and see what comes out.
